Construction will start on 30th Street Extension
Whitewater Boulevard underway
Construction on the 30th street extension is about to get underway. It's going to make it easier to get to the new whitewater park and Esther Simplot Park. It’s the area that's right off the connector and Fairview. And by next year the road will connect Fairview with State Street. With the turn of the golden shovels city leaders broke ground on the new 30th street extension Wednesday.
“Because this is going to be the place to be,” said Mayor David Bieter.
A five lane road that will connect Fairview Avenue on the south, to State Street on the north and it will run parallel to the Boise River.
“It will have curbed gutter, sidewalks and bike lanes, it will have median strips, it will have landscaping, it will have detached sidewalks, and it will have a roundabout at Stewart Avenue which is the entrance to Simplot Park,” said Sara Baker, ACHD Commissioner.
“It will become part of the neighborhood instead of a barrier to the neighborhood,” said Baker.
Construction on the 4.5 million dollar project begins next month.
“This project will allow us to reduce the number of lanes on 27th, just to have one lane in each direction, a center turn lane and a bike lane; and it will feel more like a neighborhood road and 30th will take the brunt of commuter traffic,” said Dyan Bevins, ACHD Engineer.
When it's done, the already popular whitewater park will be even easier to get to.
“What this is going to do to this area, it's going to make all of us so proud,” said Mayor David Bieter.
