BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- The former attorney of convicted killer Joseph Edward Duncan III says he often found it difficult to follow what his then-client was saying.

During a competency hearing for Duncan yesterday in Boise, John Adams said Duncan often seemed to ramble in a sort of stream-of-consciousness way.

The hearing is being held to determine if Duncan was competent when he gave up his right to appeal his death sentence in 2008 for torturing two Idaho children before killing one of them.
