Gas leak prompts early closure of Meridian Middle School
Students are being released earlier than normal today, following a gas leak at the Meridian Middle School, 1507 West 8th Street.
Meridian School District spokesman Eric Exline said the gas leak was discovered about 10:30 a.m. in one of the buildings on campus.
"Since there was no heat in the building as a result of the gas line being shut off, we decided to send students home early," Exline said.
Voicemails were sent to parents whose children attend the school, telling them of the early release.
"We allowing students who can walk home, to do so," Exline said. "Others will be bussed home."
It is unknown what caused the leak.
