N. Idaho garbage hauler files tort claim against Idaho County
GRANGEVILLE, Idaho (AP) -- A northern Idaho garbage hauler has filed a $1 million tort claim against Idaho County contending county officials illegally terminated the company's contract.
The Lewiston Tribune reports that Walco filed the tort claim Monday. A tort claim is a precursor to a lawsuit.
Walco and Simmons Sanitation of Kamiah submitted bids last fall to the county for a new solid waste contract, with county officials selecting Simmons.
Walco contends that county officials had pre-selected Simmons even if Walco submitted a lower bid and had the ability to provide better service.
Idaho County Commissioner Jim Chmelik says selecting the garbage hauler for the county was a fair and open process.
