Report: Idaho farmers, ranchers have good year
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) -- A report by University of Idaho economists says projected cash receipts from Idaho crops and livestock for farmers and ranchers set a record of $7.7 billion for 2012.
The economists say net farm income rose 5 percent because crop and livestock prices outpaced rising expenses faced by agricultural producers in 2012.
UI agricultural economist Paul Patterson tells the Lewiston Tribune that having three consecutive years of increasing cash receipts, revenue and farm income is a little surprising.
The report released Thursday says milk was the top Idaho product, generating $2.4 billion.
