Unfinished business emerges as 2013 legislative session theme
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- The 2013 Idaho Legislature hasn't started and already a theme has emerged: Unfinished business.
First up: Deciding what to do with Idaho's version of a health insurance exchange, part of President Obama's three-year-old overhaul.
Last month, Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter announced he favors a state-based version, but left a final decision up to lawmakers on this online insurance marketplace for individuals and small businesses.
After that, lawmakers will also have to pick up the pieces of public schools chief Tom Luna's failed education package, killed by Idaho voters on Nov. 6.
More than $40 million that was once directed toward those changes is now up for grabs.
And industry's now-annual push to eliminate the roughly $141 million tax on business equipment has resurfaced, with Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's tentative endorsement.
