Conn. paper runs gun show ad aside Newtown article
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) -- The Hearst Connecticut Media Group is apologizing because one of its newspapers ran an ad for an antique gun show next to an article about the Newtown school shooting.
A statement released Thursday by group Publisher Paul Farrell says the ad's placement in The Advocate of Stamford was the result of an oversight.
The Hearst group says it was insensitive and that steps have been taken to make sure it does not happen again. The group said: "Our newspapers should not be running gun ads -- including ads for antique and collectible gun shows -- next to stories about Sandy Hook."
The ad for the East Coast Fine Arms Show appeared next to an article about the Sandy Hook Elementary School, where a gunman killed 26 people on Dec. 14.
