Local hospitals welcome 2013 babies

Tuesday morning, local hospitals recorded their first new babies of the year.

According to Ken Dey with St. Luke's, a baby girl named Clarissa was born at 1:01 a.m. at St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center to Mike and Nance Chou of Boise. She was 7 pounds and 12 ounces.

A baby boy was born at 2:13 a.m. at St. Luke’s Meridian Medical. He was 7 pounds and 5 ounces.

"To help mark the special occasion, St. Luke’s provided families with some welcome gifts and a $100 Target gift card," said Dey.

Each year, nearly 6,000 babies are born at St. Luke’s Boise and Meridian hospitals in the Treasure Valley.

St. Alphonsus also said their first baby of the year was born at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, Jan. 1.

Henry Nicholas Burton was born on New Year’s Day at 1:37 AM in the Family Maternity Center at St. Al's, according to Elizabeth Duncan with the hospital. Henry weighed 8 lbs. 15 oz. He was born to Brenda and David Burton of Nampa. Both mother and baby are doing well.

"To commemorate the hospital’s New Year’s baby, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center presented the Burton family with a basket filled with baby clothes, diapers, blankets, Alphonzo bear and other items parents of newborns need and enjoy," said Duncan.
