Padding planned for rec center walls after death
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) -- Protective padding will be installed at a Jackson recreation center after a 32-year-old man died after hitting a concrete wall during an indoor soccer game.
The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports Teton County commissioners have unanimously approved $4,000 for the padding, which will be installed along the east and west ends of the gym.
Nicolas Izard suffered a severe head injury during the game at the Jackson-Teton County Recreation Center on Dec. 13. He died after being flown to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
The rules for indoor soccer, which is played on a basketball court at the rec center, allowed for the walls to be used as boundaries.
Izard, who was a seasonal laborer at Grand Teton National Park, is survived by his wife and daughter.
