Caldwell man denies federal firearms charges
A Caldwell man suspected of shooting and wounding two Canyon County deputies in October before turning the gun on himself has denied two federal firearms charges.
The Idaho Press-Tribune reports 27-year-old Kyle Alan Batt pleaded not guilty Monday to unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Court records indicate Batt was convicted of a felony drug charge in 2004 and is not permitted to own guns.
Batt is suspected of wounding two deputies Oct. 23 during a shootout at a Caldwell home where they were trying to arrest him on separate aggravated assault charges. Batt reportedly shot himself in the face when he was confronted by a SWAT team.
No local charges have been filed in the shooting.
