BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has appointed one of his former congressional aides to be Idaho's new state budget chief.

Otter on Wednesday tapped Jani Revier to be the top administrator of the Division of Financial Management -- making her the first woman to serve as state budget director. Revier takes over for Wayne Hammon, who resigned in September to return to the private sector.

Revier was a senior staff member during Otter's three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Recently, she has been working on special projects for U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson, who represents eastern Idaho in Congress.

Her husband, John, also works for Simpson's office in Idaho -- she is the daughter of veteran state Sen. Bert Brackett of Rogerson.

Her appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
