Ex-con sent to prison for 180 months on gun charge
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A 34-year-old southwestern Idaho man is going to federal prison for 15 years after pleading guilty to unlawfully possessing a firearm.
Joshua Allen Ward of Emmett was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Boise on Tuesday to 180 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
Ward had been convicted of aggravated assault in 2007 and released from state prison on parole in 2010.
As a convicted felon, he was prohibited from having a firearm.
However, officers who arrested Ward on a parole violation in January 2011 found a 9 millimeter semi-automatic pistol and assorted ammunition in Ward's bedroom at his home in Emmett.
Law enforcement agents described Ward as a violent career criminal.
