If you're like thousands of skiers and snowboarders, this is the time of year to start praying to the snow gods.  You hope Bogus Basin gets pounded with snow, but if it doesn’t,  there are other options.  You just may have to drive a little ways before putting on the skis.

Skiers and snowboarders at Greenwood’s Ski Haus on Bogus Basin Road hope snow is coming to Bogus Basin soon. “I'm hoping it's nothing like last year. We're ready to get skiing,” said Michelle Arevalo, from Eagle.  That sums up what a lot of winter fans are thinking.

With one eye on Bogus Basin and the other on the forecast, Michelle Arevalo and her family say they can’t wait to put their gear to use.  “We have two kids, a three year old and an almost seven year old. Hopefully we can ski by Christmas, so we can ski over our Christmas break and get our kids in some lessons."

Bogus Basin isn’t open just yet, but it's getting close. Some of the new snow it's getting is certainly helping the situation.

Last year was one of the worst seasons ever for Bogus Basin. It was the shortest season on record with only 86 days of skiing for the whole season, and one of the latest opening days ever.  The longest season on record was back in 1985.

If you just can't wait, there are always other options if you want to drive.  "Right now, Anthony Lakes (Oregon) and Sun Valley are open. We skied Sun Valley on Thursday and it went incredibly well. There's a lot of snow there. I would call it mid-winter conditions at this point,” said Jeff Lewerenz of Greenwood’s Ski Haus.

In the meantime, folks will also keep watching the forecast.  “I'm just on my iPhone every day, checking the snow report, checking how many inches they've gotten. And just praying; praying we can ski at Christmas,”  said Arevalo.

In Idaho, Sun Valley and Pomerelle are open. Brundage Mountain in McCall opens Friday.
