Police: Victim recants North End sexual assault claim
Boise Police Detectives say a sexual assault that allegedly took place early Wednesday morning near 15th and Lemp Street in Boise’s North End has been recanted.
“Detectives say the adult female who made the claim now tells detectives the assault did not take place. They plan to forward the investigative report to the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for review on possible filling a false police report charges,” said Boise Police spokesman Charles McClure.
Original reports said that, on Wednesday, December 5th, an adult female told police she was returning home early in the morning when an unknown suspect pushed her through her front door into the home and sexually assaulted her. The incident was reported to Boise Police at approximately 12:30 p.m. the same day and the investigation began.
“As detectives investigated the incident and followed up on the evidence, the victim recanted her report of the sexual assault today, telling detectives she made up the story,” McClure stated.
Filing a false police report is a misdemeanor under Idaho Code, with fines and penalties to be set by a judge. Police detectives say investigating false reports can be more costly and time consuming than investigating legitimate claims because there is no true trail of evidence to follow, McClure said.
