Fake pregnancy scammer arrested in Ohio
KITTANNING, Pa. (AP) -- Police say a woman who scams people by pretending to be pregnant or fleeing abuse has been arrested in Ohio.
Authorities say that 33-year-old Amy Slanina was arrested Friday and is in the Ashland, Ohio jail. It's not clear what will happen next, since she's wanted in Pennsylvania and in Ohio for a parole violation.
Slanina was charged with theft of services in Pennsylvania after using a false story to stay at a shelter near Pittsburgh in 2011. Last week in Ohio, she also allegedly sought help by falsely telling people she was fleeing an abusive relationship. Slanina was supposed to stand trial in Pennsylvania in September, but she disappeared.
Slanina also allegedly scammed an Idaho couple and a West Virginia woman with fake pregnancy tales.
