38-year-old man dead after officer-involved shooting in Meridian
Monday night just before 11:30 p.m., a woman called Meridian police reporting a "problem, possibly a suicidal man" at an apartment complex on the 1900 block of N. Wilson Lane in Meridian, near the intersection of Locust Grove and Fairview.
While the investigation is still in its early phase, reports from witnesses say, when police arrived, they were confronted by the man holding what officers only described as an "edged weapon." They have not released any further details about the weapon.
"Officers yelled to the man to drop the weapon but he did not, and instead moved toward the officers in a manner that caused the officers to fear for their safety," said Meridian Police Department Chief Jeff Lavey. "All four officers fired their weapons. The number of shots fired remains under investigation."
All four of the involved officers are currently on administrative leave. The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force is now involved because the incident involved the discharge of an officer's weapon.
The Ada County Coroner's Office has identified the man as 38-year-old Eric O. Dilworth of Meridian. A report lists the cause of death as "multiple gunshot wounds."
