Powerball frenzy hits the Treasure Valley
Powerball frenzy hit the Treasure Valley Wednesday as the jackpot reached a record $525 million and during the day continued to climb. Here at Jacksons store #10 in Boise, there's been a steady stream of people coming in to buy Powerball tickets.
Like one man who came in with $430 to buy tickets for the whole office.
Good luck takes on special meaning here, because it’s Idaho's “Lucky store”.
“We're the only store that sold two winning tickets in the whole United States at the same store, the same location,” said Tiffany Croft, Jacksons Manager.
Pam Hiatt and Brad Duke won millions of dollars when they bought their winning lottery tickets at this very store. This convenience store alone sold thousands of dollars in tickets in just a few hours Wednesday morning.
The more people play, the higher it goes. While we were at the store, it went up again.
“We just got an alert it's up to 550 million now,” said Croft.
Even though the odds of winning are astronomical, people will still play.
“With the bad odds that they get, and how much money they spend, it’s amazing,” said Croft.
