Prosecutors say man robbed own bank
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- Prosecutors allege that a man robbed his own Tacoma, Wash., bank this week, repeatedly telling a bank employee the holdup was not a joke.
The News Tribune reports that the man asked for a specific teller on Monday at a Chase Bank branch but she wasn't available. Court documents say he then handed a bank employee a note that read: "This is a robbie?" Prosecutors say the employee recognized the man as a bank customer and later told police he insisted multiple times that he wasn't joking.
The employee gave the man two envelopes full of money.
When police located the man in a nearby restaurant, prosecutors say he told them he had messed up and "robbed his own bank."
Robert Rios Jr. pleaded not guilty Tuesday to first-degree robbery.
