A Caldwell man has been sentenced for attempting to sexually abuse a teenage girl.

Michael Brown, 27 of Caldwell, was sentenced to a minimum of four years, and up to 10 years, for felony Sexual Abuse of a Minor Child.

"Brown met the victim, who was 15 at the time of the offense, and began to solicit her via text-messaging to engage in sexual intercourse," said Canyon County prosecuting attorney Bryan Taylor. "The victim’s parents discovered the text messages and turned the phone over to law enforcement, who continued text messaging on the victim’s behalf. Law enforcement arrested Brown at the agreed-upon meeting place."

The State had requested a minimum of 5 years, up to 15 years, with the court retaining jurisdiction. Brown was also ordered to register as a Sex Offender, submit a DNA sample and pay the child a $2,000 civil penalty.

“This is not a victimless crime. You pose a danger to the community,” Judge Culet said during the sentencing.
