Backcountry skiers , snowmobilers in court over snow travel
It will be a *powder* struggle in court today as skiers go head to head with snowmobilers. Backcountry skiers are asking a judge to tell the U.S. Forest Service to eventually limit where snowmobiles can drive on public land. The Forest Service has been working on travel limitations for motorized vehicles since 2005, but snowmobiles haven't been a part of those plans.
Idaho-based Winter Wildlands alliance, which filed the lawsuit in September, says snowmobiles shouldn't get a free pass. Opponents of the measure, though, say it's unnecessary and wasteful to make U.S.forests draft plans for over-the-snow travel.
