Search resumes for 2 snowboarders on Mount Rainier
LONGMIRE, Wash. (AP) -- The search has resumed for two snowboarders stranded in heavy snow on Mount Rainier.
National Park spokeswoman Lee Snook at Longmire says six five-member teams went out Tuesday morning. Each is led by a ranger. Team members include mountain rescue volunteers from Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia.
She says the team members take turns "swimming" through snow 2 to 4 feet deep to break a trail.
They headed toward the spot near McClure Rock where the two men were spotted Monday before darkness and dangerous conditions forced rescuers back. They were within a half-mile and waving at each other.
The men -- 21-year-old Derek Tyndall of Sumner and 20-year-old Thomas Dale of Indiana, whose hometown believed to be Fort Wayne) -- went snowboarding Sunday and weren't equipped to stay overnight.
