Nampa Juvenile worker charged with Lewd Conduct with a Minor months after employees complained
More proof that whistleblower claims against the juvenile corrections facility in Nampa appear to be true. A security supervisor was arraigned Friday for having sex with a 15-year-old child in the Nampa facility, and it's a charge she admits.
Julie McCormick stood before a judge after admitting in court documents that she took advantage of a young inmate at the Nampa Juvenile Corrections Facility.
"The probable cause affidavit indicates that she engaged in sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old who was housed at the detention center." says Canyon County Deputy Prosecutor Erica Kallin.
McCormick admitted to having sex three times with a boy who's initials were tattooed on her neck.
The prosecutor says this is an unfortunate fact of life.
"It happens just about everywhere unfortunately." says Kallin, "and that's sad."
Whistleblowers who have filed a lawsuit against juvenile corrections say they were reporting concerns about McCormick taking kids behind closed doors for months before her dismissal. But that's not what the prosecutor heard.
"It's my understanding miss McCormick was terminated as soon as allegations came to light," says Kallin.
McCormick was fired in August, but in an e-mail from april, a security official writes to superiors that McCormick mentioned a teen had developed a crush on her. The security official goes on to write about concern that the boundary between professional and sexual relationship for McCormick and the teen was "becoming more and more blurry."
Then in March, whistleblowers say they brought their concerns directly to Betty Grimm, the facility's director, but they say their concerns were ignored. And now it seems clear their concerns were valid.
We've been trying for weeks to get Betty Grimm as well as the director of juvenile corrections to talk to us by phone or on camera and have not received any response.
