Last Tuesday, Election Day, 38,517 people registered to vote in Ada County, officials say.

As a result the final turnout in Ada County was 73.1 percent, according to the Ada County Elections Office officials. “This is down from 2008, when Ada County experienced a 78 percent turnout,” Chief Deputy Clerk Phil McGrane said in a news release.

“With so many people needing to register, reports indicated there were often longer lines to register than to actually vote at the polls. The redrawing of precincts with redistricting this past year, presented a few new challenges, but solved some old problems. In 2006, Ada County experienced lines over four hours long in some precincts. By redrawing precinct lines this past year, Ada County successfully reduced almost all lines to less than a half-hour, with a few lines for registration taking up to an hour,” McGrane added.
