“Supply Our Students” campaign aims to help Nampa schools budget shortfall
The public will have a chance to donate much-needed school supplies for Nampa classrooms during a “Supply Our Students” day-long campaign to be held Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Nampa Civic Center.
It’s sponsored by a group of Nampa businesses and organizations in an effort to gather supplies and $270,000 for 900 classrooms in the Nampa School District.
The community-wide effort is a result of the $4.3 million budget shortfall that the Nampa School District faces.
Supply Our Students (SOS) is independent of the Nampa School District, and aims to help fill the school supplies gap that teachers and students face because of the shortfall, organizers announced Monday night.
The effort is two-pronged. Organizers say credit card donations can be made to the nonprofit organization, Nampa Schools Foundation, on the web athttp://supplyourstudents.com/
Also, the Supply Our Students campaign will collect donations Wednesday, Nov. 14, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Nampa Civic Center. They say you can drop your donations off at the big yellow bus.
The budget shortfall has caused deep cuts in the school supply budgets. Additionally, Nampa teachers have each been allocated $300 to buy supplies specifically designed for the curriculums and their students. But that, too, was cut this year.
“This effort is what Nampa Schools Foundation is all about – equipping teachers to positively impact all students,” Nampa Schools Foundation spokesperson Paula Kellerer said. “We are so grateful to be partnering with other community members to support our teachers and students.” Kellerer is a program director and education specialist at Northwest Nazarene University.
The Nampa Schools Foundation, a nonprofit organization organized in 1994, will receive the donations. Use of the money will be restricted to only classroom supplies and teachers will be able to decide, within district guidelines, how the money can be used.
