Police rescue men from burning car after high-speed chase
Wednesday night, Nov. 7, just after 11 p.m., a Garden City Police Officer attempted to pull over a car on Chinden Blvd. When he did, the car sped off "in a reckless manner."
The officer terminated the pursuit for the safety of the public, but right after he did, the driver failed to negotiate a left turn from Glenwood onto Goddard.
"[The] vehicle skidded across the intersection, jumped a curb, struck a tree, and the vehicle came to rest on its side in the front yard of 4250 Glenwood," said Sgt. Jerry Walbey with the Garden City Police Department.
Just after the car crashed, the car caught on fire. The police officer broke out the sunroof and a Boise Police Officer helped the driver, Joshua Self, 33 of Boise, and his passenger, Darrell Abascal, 39 of Boise, get out of the car.
Self was taken to St. Alphonsus where he was admitted for non-life threatening injuries. Abascal was treated and released at the scene.
Garden City Police believe alcohol and speed to be contributing factors to the crash. Boise Police will be completing the accident investigation to include the investigation of Self for Driving Under the Influence.
