Woman sentenced for stealing from elderly roommate
A 33-year-old Buhl woman who pleaded guilty to stealing from her 82-year-old roommate has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Shon Leslie Briggs was sentenced last week in 5th District Court for forgery and abusing a vulnerable adult.
Prosecutors say Briggs' thefts left the woman unable to afford her medications or insurance premiums. Police say Briggs used the money to buy cigarettes, beer and jewelry.
Briggs was sentenced to six years for forgery and 10 years for the abuse, the sentences to run concurrently. She must serve at least three years before she's eligible for parole.
She was also ordered to pay $3,252.21 in restitution to the victim.
