Washington couple lived the 'Argo' movie story
ANACORTES, Wash. (AP) -- An Anacortes couple can vouch for the accuracy of the movie "Argo."
Mark Lijek and his wife Cora Amburn-Lijek were two of the six Americans who escaped after the U.S. Embassy in Tehran was overrun. They were hidden by Canadians and left Iran in 1980 in a successful CIA scheme that portrayed them as Canadians who were in the country for a movie.
Lijek told The Seattle Times he posed as a transportation coordinator for the film crew and his wife as a script writer. He grew a beard to look more "Hollywood." She curled her hair and altered her appearance with makeup.
In early October they went to Los Angeles for a screening of the movie with director and star Ben Affleck.
