Four Idahoans deployed to Red Cross hurricane relief effort
The American Red Cross of Greater Idaho announced today that four volunteers from across the state have been deployed to the East Coast to assist with victim support, mental health consults and staff support during and after Hurricane Sandy.
More than 1,300 disaster workers from across the nation have been mobilized. Currently 112 shelters in nine states have been established and held 3,200 evacuees last night. 230,000 meals and snacks have been delivered to shelters.
Nearly 100 Red Cross blood drives have already been canceled due to the storm, and according to the Red Cross, this will only increase as the week goes on. The Red Cross is asking people who are eligible to give blood in places not affected by the storm to schedule a blood donation.
To donate, visit www.redcross.org or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
