Caldwell man arrested for vehicular manslaughter relating to August crash
A Caldwell man was charged with involuntary vehicular manslaughter in the death of a 64-year-old motorcyclist killed on West State Street in Eagle in August.
According to Andrea Dearden with the Ada County Sheriff's office, the crash happened just before 7:30 a.m. Aug. 27 in front of the Shady Acres convenience store. According to Dearden, Tyler J. Campbell, 28 of Caldwell, was driving a 1994 Ford F-250 east on State Street. Just before reaching the intersection, he moved into the center turn lane and prepared to turn into the entrance of Shady Acres.
As Campbell turned across the oncoming lane of traffic, he collided with a Harley Davidson motorcycle. The motorcyclist, identified by the Ada County Coroner’s Office as Arthur Peter Zottarelli, 64 of Eagle, died on impact. Deputies say Zottarelli was wearing a helmet and protective clothing. Campbell was not hurt.
Based on the information gathered during the investigation, Campbell was charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and turned himself into authorities on Thursday. He posted a $10,000 bond and was placed on supervised pre-trial release. Dearden said investigators do not believe Campbell was driving impaired at the time of the crash.
