Charge dropped even though man allegedly texted officer about drug buy
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) -- An Idaho judge has dismissed a drug conspiracy charge filed against a man who allegedly texted a police detective about getting in on a drug purchase, saying officers didn't go far enough in connecting the man to the drugs.
Court records allege 27-year-old Aaron D. Templeton of Lewiston accidentally texted the officer as he tried to put together a bulk purchase of methamphetamine in September.
The texts referred to the substances as "T," which officers say is the street vernacular for one-sixteenth of an ounce of meth.
The Lewiston Tribune reports 2nd District Magistrate Gregory Kalbfleisch said there could be other substances referred to as "T."
Kalbfleisch said Wednesday if the meeting between Templeton and the officer had gone to the point where money and drugs were exchanged, that would be a crime.
