Police still investigating stabbing-shooting case
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) -- Deputies in north-central Idaho are still investigating a dispute that left an elderly man with a stab wound and his elderly wife with gunshot wounds to her hand and hip.
Idaho County sheriff's deputy Brian Hewson told the Lewiston Tribune that the mental condition of the 77-year-old wife will likely determine whether charges are filed.
Hewson said the husband, who is also 77, called deputies Oct. 18 as he drove himself to a hospital, and reported his wife had stabbed him in the back. Hewson said moments later the wife called deputies from their Grangeville home to report she'd been shot by her husband.
Both were hospitalized, and both have since been released. Hewson says officials believe the wife has dementia. She's now living at a long-term care facility.
