Big crane restricts access at Hells Canyon Dam
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- The road closure on Hells Canyon Dam that spans the Snake River between Idaho and Oregon will continue through Friday, with utility Idaho Power Co. urging drivers to choose an alternate route.
The road over the dam will be closed every day from 8 a.m. to noon, and then from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
Idaho Power says the road closure is necessary as the utility performs routine maintenance on the dam's spillway gates.
The company expects the road over the 45-year-old dam to reopen Friday evening and remain open until Nov. 10, when a previously announced closure for switchyard maintenance will resume.
Hells Canyon Dam is located about 21 miles downstream from another of Idaho Power's hydroelectric facilities, Oxbow Dam.
