Tuesday, October 23, at 11:00 p.m. Canyon County Sheriff’s deputies were attempting to locate a suspect in the 24000 block of Sheryl Lane, west of Caldwell.

According to the Canyon County Sheriff, the suspect was wanted in connection to an earlier crime that had occurred in Caldwell. When deputies arrived at the location and attempted contact with the suspect, he allegedly fired multiple shots at deputies, hitting two of them. It is believed that at least one deputy was able to return fire at the suspect, who fled the location on foot.

"A perimeter was established by assisting units and an area search including the use of a police canine was conducted," the Canyon County Sheriff said. "The suspect was located by SWAT personnel at approximately 2:45 a.m., hiding in a nearby garage. When confronted by SWAT members, the suspect shot himself. He was transported to an area hospital, and his condition is unknown at this time. The suspect is a 27-year-old Caldwell resident.

Both deputies are six-year veterans of the Sheriff’s Office. One of the deputies was treated and released with minor injuries the other is in serious condition.
