Food pantry opens to feed Boise State students
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A Catholic student center at Boise State University is opening a food pantry to help feed hungry students struggling to make ends meet.
For about 15 years, the St. Paul's Catholic Student Center has served a meal after Mass to anyone from campus who needed one. Now Teresa DeVino tells The Idaho Statesman that effort is expanding to the food pantry, which will open every Tuesday.
The pantry is a collaboration of several campus and community groups. DeVino says it's a response to a growing need among students.
Boise State isn't the first campus to start a food pantry. One of the first opened at Michigan State in the 1990s. The University of California, Davis, started one in 2010, and the University of Arkansas last year.
