Defendant in libel lawsuit says comments were question
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) -- A Rathdrum woman who is defending herself in a libel lawsuit says an anonymous comment she made on a newspaper blog was a question about the accounting of Republican Party funds in Kootenai County, not an allegation of theft.
The Spokesman-Review reports that Linda Cook is representing herself in the lawsuit brought against her by Tina Jacobson, former chairwoman of the local GOP.
Cook in her response to the lawsuit writes that she has proof that Jacobson failed to provide annual budget and financial statements and other documents to members of the county's Republican Central Committee.
In her lawsuit, Jacobson claims she was "offended and embarrassed" by Cook's blog comments.
