Idaho historical group wants to save old school
WORLEY, Idaho (AP) -- An old school building in the northern Idaho town of Worley is at the center of tug-of-war between the newly formed Worley Historical Society and the Plummer-Worley School District.
The building was built in the late 1930s. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports the historical society wants to convert it into a museum and cultural center, with hopes that it would draw in travelers along U.S. 95.
But the school district is planning to demolish the building in early December. Superintendent Judi Sharrett says the roof is an imminent hazard. She says it would cost $14 million to make the building safe for students.
Historical society president Catherine Morris says the building was built under the New Deal and it's a big part of the history of Worley.
