Transportation officials are holding an informational meeting Wednesday, October 17 on the second phase of the Meridian Split Corridor Project.

The Ada County Highway District, the City of Meridian and the Meridian Development Corporation says the meeting will help the public learn more about construction plans for the Meridian Split Corridor Phase 2 project and the City of Meridian’s Public Works Sewer and Water Project, which will get underway on October 29.

At the meeting, the contractor will provide information on how the project will be constructed, including anticipated street closures, construction challenges and impacts. A brief presentation will be made at the start of each meeting. followed by an opportunity for the public to ask questions of the contractor, ACHD and City staff.

Phase one of the project was completed in August 2009 and created a one-way couplet on Main Street and Meridian Road between Interstate 84 and Franklin Road.

A project groundbreaking is planned for October 29, when construction will get underway on Phase 2. Impacted Meridian businesses are invited to attend the meeting between 5 and 6 p.m.; the general public is invited from 6 to 7 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the Meridian City Hall, 33 E. Broadway Avenue.

Information from the meeting will be posted to the project web site, www.meridiansplitcorridor.org.

During construction, Meridian Road will be closed between the railroad tracks, to just south of the Meridian and Cherry intersection. Businesses and residences within the closure will be accessed off of Main Street, side streets and alleys.

According to city officials, Phase 2 of the Meridian Split Corridor project will create a one-way cross-over road connecting Main Street to Meridian Road, north of Franklin Road and south of the railroad tracks. North of the cross-over, Meridian Road will be widened to five lanes with two northbound lanes, two southbound lanes and a center turn lane.

The project will also reconstruct the Meridian/Cherry and Main/Fairview intersections. The project includes extensive work to replace the city’s sewer and water services on Meridian Road between Franklin Road and West Willowbrook Drive.
