Pre-registration closes Friday for the 2012 Idaho General Election
Idaho Secretary of State Ben Ysursa reminded voters that Friday, October 12th, is the last day to pre-register to vote in Idaho. Completed registration cards must be mailed and postmarked Friday to be accepted. Voters may also deliver their completed registration card to their County Clerk by 5 pm.
Qualified electors who send in their completed registration postmarked Friday will be registered to vote. “In Idaho, we are fortunate to also have another option for voters that are not able to register by the deadline. Idaho is one of eight states that offer Election Day Registration. Our state law allows qualified electors to register at their county’s early voting site or at the polls on Election Day,” Ysursa said.
A qualified elector must be 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, and a resident in the state and county 30 days prior to the election. For those voters opting for Election Day registration, the law requires proof of residence in the precinct and photo identification. A photo ID with current address, or a photo ID with a document such as a utility bill or student fee statement that shows residence in the precinct is required to register.
Identification is also required to vote, Ysursa said. However, if a registered voter cannot provide photo identification, they may sign a Personal Identification Affidavit and receive a ballot.
A valid Idaho driver’s license or Idaho photo identification card, a Federal photo identification card, a Tribal identification card, or a current Idaho student photo identification card are acceptable forms of identification to vote.
“No eligible voter will be denied the right to vote.” Ysursa said. “We value and encourage participation.”
In-person absentee voting will be open to voters statewide starting Monday.
Voters should check with their county election office for the location in their county. Voters can check their registration status, locate their polling place, track their absentee ballot and find more information on voter registration on idahovotes.gov.
