Mother charged after 2 ailing children found in Wash. car; 1 dies
TULALIP, Wash. (AP) -- Authorities say a mother has been arrested after two ailing young girls, one of whom later died, were found in a car parked on the Tulalip Reservation in Washington.
Tulalip Police Chief Rance Sutten says the woman called for help Monday because an 18-month-old girl was not responsive. Both that child and her 2 1/2-year-old sister were rushed to an Everett hospital. The younger girl later died. The cause of death is under investigation.
State Child Protective Services spokeswoman Chris Case identified her as Chantel Craig.
Tulalip Tribal Chairman Mel Sheldon says the older girl is hospitalized at Seattle Children's Hospital and is expected to survive.
The mother has been jailed for investigation of child endangerment and failure to care for a dependent person.
