REXBURG, Idaho (AP) -- A century-old creamery in eastern Idaho is closing, ending a run stretching back to before World War I and adding to a list of agricultural-related casualties that mark Idaho's evolving economy.

The Rexburg Standard-Journal reports the Nelson-Ricks Creamery Co. closes its Rexburg facility on Oct. 13.

Idaho's milk industry is the nation's third-biggest, but managers of the creamery based in Salt Lake City said the future of the 16-employee Idaho operation was too dim to keep the doors open.

There's been talk for a year, since management went through a shake-up, that the writing was on the wall.

Dairy farmers in the region will have to find a new place to sell their milk. Nelson-Ricks was founded in 1907 and once operated 12 facilities.

It will continue to operate in Utah.
