BYU-Idaho enrollment continues growth
REXBURG, Idaho (AP) -- Enrollment at Mormon-owned Brigham Young University-Idaho continued its heady growth, with a 12 percent hike in students this fall compared to last year.
Fall semester enrollment totaled 16,773 local students at the Rexburg university.
That's equivalent to 14,300 students attending full time.
The school now hopes to reach an enrollment-cap goal of 15,000 full-time students by 2013 -- two years earlier than originally planned.
The Idaho Falls Post-Register reports that BYU-I is attempting to make a college education accessible to more students.
The growth this year easily outpaces past expansion.
The university, which expanded to a four-year institution a decade ago, grew by nearly 7 percent between fall semester 2010 and 2011 and by nearly 6 percent between fall semester 2009 and 2010.
