Expensive caucus drained Idaho GOP campaign cash
Southwestern Idaho Republicans celebrated the March 6 "Super Tuesday" Presidential Caucus in Ada County as the nation's biggest event of its kind this year, with more than 9,000 people descending on the Taco Bell Arena at Boise State University.
After the party came the hangover: A surprise $35,000 bill.
The hefty tab is leaving the county GOP group with little money to give to Republican contenders for the Nov. 6 election.
After BSU refused to make concessions and reduce the tab, party members are also leaning against having a big caucus again in 2016.
When Barack Obama held a political event for 14,000 people in 2008 at the same venue, his tab was only $12,959 -- a third of what Republicans were charged.
