Escapee captured in west Boise neighborhood
An inmate who escaped from the Ada County Jail about 4 p.m. Thursday was back in custody about an hour later, after an extensive manhunt in a west Boise neighborhood.
Officers from the Boise Police Department, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, and a number of other local law enforcement agencies searched the area near the Boise Towne Sqaure Mall for the escapee.
According to Ada County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Andrea Dearden, the escapee is a “low risk inmate assigned to the kitchen staff. Initial reports indicate he ran from a supervisor this afternoon while taking out trash.”
The inmate’s name was not immediately released.
Dearden also said he was serving time on a misdemeanor probation violation.
Officers eventually caught the man in the parking lot of the Boise Chinese Christian Church.
For awhile, officers had Allumbaugh Street blocked, just south of Fairview Avenue, while they searched condominium complexes in the area. Residents reported seeing the man flee through the neighborhood.
We have a reporter following the story and will bring you more details as they develop.
