BLM releases preferred route for major power line
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- The federal Bureau of Land Management has chosen a preferred route for a 1,100-mile high-voltage transmission line expected to run through southern Idaho and southern Wyoming.
The Times-News reports the proposed route for the Gateway West Transmission Line project has been hotly debated in several counties, in part because it could span large amounts of private farmland.
BLM's preferred route attempts to avoid priority archaeological sites and critical sage grouse habitat. The route could still change, however. BLM spokeswoman Beverly Gorny says the public will have a chance to comment before the final decision is made.
