Eagle has a new downtown mural.

It’s located on the wall of the new Smoky Mountain Pizzeria and Grill Building adjacent to Heritage Park on State Street.

Some have said, “It looks like a big beautiful oil painting on the side of a building!”

Others say, “The horses look like they could run right out of the picture and head down the street!”

Artist Brenda Kaye was chosen by the Eagle Arts Commission, and started the mural in June.

She completed the mural last month.

Spending the entire summer, Kaye started prep work on the cinderblock wall. When the weather was in the triple digits, she took an angle grinder to the wall to knock off paint and smooth the wall prepping for the actual painting. Then, she applied a couple coats of sealer to the cement surface and a couple coats of gesso to have a good quality base to begin painting the mural.
Making use of a technique known as “trompe l’oeil” painting, she created simple arched “windows” through which one can view the scene.
