Insects destroy Lincoln County's historic documents
SHOSHONE, Idaho (AP) -- Paper-eating insects are destroying historical documents in southern Idaho's Lincoln County.
The county clerk, Suzanne McConnell, told The Times-News that volunteers discovered the damage while they were working to digitize the older, paper records. The records include judgments, birth certificates, marriage licenses, land deeds and permits, all kept in a vault below the county courthouse.
At least two books of judgments -- including one from the 1930s -- are totally destroyed. McConnell says the county is going to fog the area with a pesticide to make sure no future damage will happen, and the rest of the digitization should be completed in about six weeks.
