Former sheriff's lawsuit settled
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) -- A former Nez Perce County sheriff has reached a settlement agreement over claims that he was injured because the state of Idaho and its Department of Correction failed to adequately protect him while he served time in prison.
The Lewiston Tribune reports U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill signed an order Sept. 13 saying a judgment was entered and dismissing Jimmy Ray Dorion's lawsuit.
Boise attorney Joseph P. Filicetti said Thursday the agreement included a confidentiality provision.
Dorion pleaded guilty to being an accessory to burglary for helping a man evade arrest for a series of burglaries. He was sentenced in August 2009 to up to five years in prison and served four months.
During that time he was taken to the hospital after guards noticed he had bruises.
