Man dies after shootout with Coeur d'Alene police
Kootenai County authorities say Coeur d'Alene police officers fatally shot a man who fired upon them.
The sheriff's office released a statement that said the officers were chasing a vehicle Saturday morning they believe was driven by a man suspected of shooting another man.
The man allegedly fired at officers during the chase, then lost control of his vehicle. The sheriff's office says the man and the officers then exchanged shots and the man was fatally wounded.
The sheriff's office did not release the man's name or the names of the officers.
Authorities say the victim from the first shooting had a chest wound and was in surgery on Saturday.
The sheriff's office says an Interagency Critical Investigation team made up of officials from local agencies will investigate the shooting.
