'Race 2 the Summit' event kicks off with lots of energy!
With some education cutbacks in our state, a few moms put together a special race to raise money for their local schools.
Three young moms have children in the Horseshoe Bend School District, and they hoped to make a difference for students in their small community with ‘Race 2 the Summit’.
Hundreds of runners of all ages showed up to the race, which included a half marathon, a 5k and a 10k course along the Horseshoe Bend Mountains and near the Payette River.
Everyone said they had a blast. People from all over Idaho raced in Horseshoe Bend.
All of the money raised from the race will go to help the schools in Horseshoe Bend. The school district's levy failed last spring, and parents were concerned about their children’s programs being cut.
The moms, who organized this event, said in the end, this race is all about the kids. Organizers said they hope to raise at least $5,000 for the schools.
