Zoo Boise is welcoming two new members to its family - two serval kittens, one male and one female. The kittens were born Sept. 20.

"Shortly after giving birth, the serval mother demonstrated that she was not sufficiently caring for the kittens, so zoo staff pulled them off exhibit and has been hand-raising them since," said Amy Stahl with Boise Parks and Recreation. "A third kitten was born, but did not survive, which is not abnormal for wild cat species."

Zoo staff are hand-raising the kittens until they are weaned, but beginning Sept. 29, visitors will be able to view the kittens at the zoo. According to Stahl, the servals will be on display in the Simplot Education Center. Visitors will be able to watch feedings daily at 10:15 am and 2:15 pm.

When the servals are weaned, around 6 to 8 weeks, Zoo Boise will decide whether they will stay in Boise or be moved to another zoo.

You can find more information on the kittens at zooboise.org.
